Top Drawer 2012
So Top Drawer Spring 2012 came and went in a pleasing flurry of order forms and rushed paper cups of stewed coffee... rapidly followed by a 3 day migraine. Yes, it was that exciting. We had interest from Scribbler and Harrods, no less! (beeeam) And somewhat gratifyingly, The Great British Card Company blog chose Pennychoo as one of their favourite 4 publishers at Top Drawer! So that was nice. Click below to visit the blog.

Retro To Go Go – Yeah Baby!

It was a nice man in America who told me that Retro To Go had (with no prompting from me!) mentioned Pennychoo so I wasted no time in rushing over to their marvelous corner of the blogosphere and finding that this was indeed the case!
Click here to wonder at it with your very own eyes...

We's goin' hupmarket, hinnit?

(Pennychoo cards are in here.)

(They're in here too.)
Pennychoo cards are very pleased to announce that we can now be found in two of our favourite-est buildings in England – the Royal Festival Hall and the Brighton Pavillion!
Yes - yes, we are quite excited, as a matter of fact. Can you tell?

Swoosh - beeep! Swoosh- beeep! Swoosh - beeep! Swoosh- beeep! Swoosh - beeep! Swoosh- beeep!

Yes, that's the sound you'll be hearing in Pennychoo-stuffed shops across the country soon as all cards will now come complete with barcodes!
Such is my commitment to adding ease and efficiency to the Pennychoo Experience, I went on a course – a half day course (yes, a half day course) – at GS1UK in the heart of London to learn all there is to know about those stripey little critters.
So ask me something about barcodes.
Anything.
Go on.
Oh, go onnnn.....

Gimme a P! Gimme a G! Gimme a, um, Live! Er, oh look, this just isn't working....
Yes, dear reader, Pennychoo will be gracing the hallowed halls of the Business Design Centre at London's only dedicated greetings card trade show, Progressive Greetings Live (or 'PG' Live - now do you see where I was going with the 'gimme a P! Gimme a G!' thing?)
May 24th and 25th will see thousands of card-crazed loons descending upon Islington to talk flitter, debossing and minimum carriage paid orders before swarming into the dining hall like a Biblical plague of locusts to gorge themselves on complimentary sarnies.
But don't stay downstairs with the old folk, wend your way upstairs to the Springboard section where all the young and nubile crazy hip kids will be! I'll be there too, keeping an eye on them - young people today, eh? Tsk.

Sale! Yes, I said....

Out with the old and in with lots of lovely new stuff. Have a look at the sale page to see what bargains there are to be had...

A mooving story....
Sandwiched between the bosoms of some buxom burlesque models in the December issue of Milkcow magazine, you'll find a rather nice two and a half page feature on Pennychoo! Whether anyone will get past the bosoms is another matter...

Pennychoo enters the blogosphere!
And that's not a sentence you use every day.
Yes, always at the cutting edge of technology, Pennychoo has finally done what everyone else did about 4 years ago and got a blog.
Subtitled 'The mutterings and musings of a rambling retrophile', it promises to bring together old stuff I like, and new stuff I like that reinterprets or references the past in an interesting way. And then I'll whitter about them until someone tells me to stop.
It'll be word-light and image-heavy (as all my favourite design blogs are), and the plan is to update regularly.
Plans are great things aren't they? Remind me I said all this 6 months down the line....

Pennychoo in Kustom Kristmas Kard Kuh-rayzyness!
Okay - that's quite enough annoying alliteration.
Pennychoo is happy to have been asked to take part in The Kustom Kristmas Fair at the Horatio Pub on Sunday 5th of December.
A new event, it's organised by the London Lowbrow & Kustom Ko-op, and promises 'live bands, pinstriping, mulled wine and cake' amongst other rockin' delights!
As if that wasn't enough, entry is free! Starting at 1pm, it finishes at 11pm, so get yourselves to The Horatio, Holloway Rd, London N7 8JE.
The spiffing poster artwork is by Kate Hawkridge, by the way, who will also be displaying her wares at the event.

Pennychoo doesn't hit the high street! And it's still good news!

The excitement is at fever pitch here at Choo Towers as our cards have made it onto the splendiferously stylish pages of notonthehighstreet.com, and just in time for Christmas too! As they say on their site:
'We get hundreds of new products landing on our desks and popping up in our in-boxes every single week but we only select the very best. And we don’t do ordinary – for us, it has to be original so we only choose products that inspire us.'
At which point, I cough politely and move modestly aside...

Midlands bound for an interesting inky venture...
As a Staffordshire lass born and bred, I was very pleased to take an order from the gift shop of the Shire Hall Art Gallery in Stafford last week. It turns out that someone has been hunting high and low for cards to sell in the shop to complement an upcoming exhibition about tattooing and I'm very happy that they feel that Pennychoo cards are the cards to do just that!
Art with a Pulse II is on from 18 September until 31 October and will 'showcase work by artists inspired by tattoo and its culture.'
'The show will also look at the history of tattooing as well as some present day 'tattooed ladies' such as leading burlesque performers and sideshow acts.'
Please note that in my newfound status as 'Local Gal Made Good' I will be standing by the till and autographing all cards, whether or not this is what customers actually want.

Come into the garden, Penny(choo)...
Maybe it's that wasted youth spent in front of Gardener's World on a Friday evening, but I'm uncommonly chuffed to announce that Pennychoo cards are now gracing the shelves of the Gift Shop at Wisley, the HQ of the Royal Horticultural Society!
Not surprisingly, Floradeco ranges feature heavily...
Address: RHS Garden Wisley Woking Surrey GU23 6QB
Opening times (to 31 October) Mon - Fri: 10am - 6pm Sat -Sun: 9am - 6pm

Pennychoo loses trade show virginity!
You heard right, folks – tropical North London temperatures and throbbing toothache couldn't stop Pennychoo from having a fantastic first ever trade show at Progressive Greetings Live in Islington's Business Design Centre.
Contacts were established, catalogues handed out, friends made, and those all-important first orders were taken with sweaty-palmed nervousness.. (and that was just the customer...)
The sarnies were pretty darned good too, as was the free vino-collapso at the party on Tuesday night. Ooh, and don't even get me started on the cheese straws...
Thankyou to all those who slapped me and made me breathe deeply at the right moments: the lovely and unflappable Tracey Arnaud, Pete 'Spirit Level' Cook, and my glamorous assistants Fiona from Notorious Kitsch (www.notoriouskitsch.co.uk) and the lovely Niki who pretended to be Debbie McGhee all day.
Thanks also to Vera for the loan of the grooviest magazine rack in the western world, and to my dentist for painlessly relieving me of my wisdom tooth last Thursday. I love you all *sob* - yes, even the dentist.

Choo's in the news
Pennychoo gets a mention in this month's issue of Progressive Greetings Worldwide (May) which has a feature on the designers (like me) who will be in the Springboard section of Progressive Greetings Live.
If you're going to be there, drop in for a retro chew or three: I'm not too proud for bribery so you may as well milk it.
